Once upon a time (today), in a land far far away (Jordan), there was a girl (me) who was calling on every dendrite and synapse within her brain to correctly conjugate her newly acquired verbs. In the midst of saying, "he left his big, green, new ball at home on the table" the arabic tutor stopped all aforementioned dendrite expansion when she said, "women in Jordan should shave their arms." All of this was said while pointing at said students hairy arms! The student sat quietly to take in every ounce of awkwardness in the small classroom and vowed to write a blog as soon as possible.

oh my goodness. yes, our dear Jordanian friends are quite blunt, aren't they? I've been called out many a times and just had to laugh about it.
haha! understood! don't know about jordan culture, but in thai culture, they won't confront matters unless it's a matter of making sure one knows they are hairy, ugly, fat, slow, a foreigner, whatever. as far as learning with a tutor... i've said and spelled inappropriate words unknowingly. i love watching my tutor lose all composure when that happens. and i love how she has to tell me what it means because i won't go on until i know how to say the word i'm not supposed to say! :) fun times!
